Dr Karan Sinha is a compassionate Psychiatrist who is a leader and advocate in his field for the holistic approach to mental wellbeing. He was brought up in Melbourne with a good balance of Eastern and Western values. He inspires his patients to adhere to medications where appropriate and adopt scientifically proven practices of guided meditation, self-compassion and exercise to assist in their recovery.
He graduated from the University of Melbourne and has developed his interests in Anxiety and Depressive Disorders. He has been working at Monash Health and specialising in the area of General Psychiatry for the past 6 years treating mostly adults and youth. He has extensive knowledge and experience with using current psychiatric medications and has been working with adults, youth, children and elderly in community outpatient and inpatient settings. He has commenced sub-specialising in Psychotherapies and is developing his own therapy based on Self-Compassion Meditation. Dr Karan is widely travelled and has made meditation and yoga a daily practice.

Age Group of patients seen: Teenagers (13+) and above, young adults, adults and elderly above 65 years old without dementia.
Therapies used in practice: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Compassion Focussed Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy.
Here’s what Dr Sinha says about his practice: “I believe medications can be helpful in more severe diseases and for short periods of time. However, to fully recover and heal from a mental illness, I also use other approaches including guided meditation, introspection, self-compassion, assertiveness and physical exercise.”
